Set up FranklyMail in the Gmail app on Android
This adds a FranklyMail mailbox to the Gmail app on Android — the same app most Android phones already use for a Google account, added as a second, independent account rather than replacing anything.
Gmail calls this a Personal (IMAP) account. IMAP is the protocol that keeps your mail on the server and lets several devices see the same folders, rather than each device downloading its own separate copy — it’s the reason mail you read on your phone also shows as read in a browser later.
Before you start.
Two things, and both come from the FranklyMail panel rather than from Android (Gmail app) itself.
- The mailbox's address, for example you@yourdomain.com.
- The mailbox password — or an app password from Settings in the FranklyMail panel. Not your FranklyMail account sign-in password.
Step by step.

Open Gmail, tap your account avatar in the top right, then Add another account.

Tap Other, at the bottom of the list of providers.

Type the mailbox address, tap Next, then choose Personal (IMAP) on the following screen.
Gmail offers Personal (IMAP) and Exchange as the two manual options here — Personal (IMAP) is the one that matches FranklyMail.

Enter the mailbox password, then tap Next.

On the incoming server settings screen, fill in Username (the full address), Server (mx1.franklymail.com), Port (993), and set Security type to SSL/TLS.

On the outgoing server settings screen that follows, leave "Require sign-in" switched on, then fill in Username, Server (mx1.franklymail.com), Port (465), and Security type SSL/TLS — same values as incoming, different port.
If "Require sign-in" gets switched off, the username and password fields disappear and sending fails without explanation. Leave it on.

Tap Next through the account options screen — sync frequency, notifications, and so on, whatever suits you — then give the account a name and finish.

- The full mailbox address — not just the part before the @.
- Password
- The mailbox's own password, or an app password from Settings. Never the password you sign in to the FranklyMail panel with — that's a different credential and every client in this guide will reject it.
The same host also serves POP3 on port 995, which some older clients ask for instead. POP3 removes mail from the server as it downloads, so only the first device to check ever sees a message — IMAP is the right choice unless you have a specific reason to want that.
If it doesn't work.
- Gmail says it can’t sign in, right after you enter the password.
- Double check mx1.franklymail.com was typed exactly, with no stray spaces the on-screen keyboard sometimes adds, and that Port 993 and Security type SSL/TLS are both set on the incoming screen.
- Mail arrives fine, but nothing sends.
- Open the account’s settings from Gmail’s hamburger menu, check Outgoing server settings, and confirm "Require sign-in" is on with the same username and password as incoming.
- The account won’t add at all, and Gmail doesn’t say why.
- Confirm the domain shows fully verified in the FranklyMail panel. A domain that hasn’t finished DNS setup will accept the login attempt and still fail silently, because nothing is actually routing mail to it yet.
- Still stuck.
- Email hello@franklymail.com with whatever message Gmail showed, and which of the two screens — incoming or outgoing — it happened on.
